Destination Inspiration - Wildlife Ideas for August

Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea is the worlds second largest island and is home to thirty eight types of bird of paradise. The huge areas of tropical rainforest provide perfect habitats for a wide variety of bird life. Some good birdwatching spots include Tari, Kiunga and the Moitaka and Baiyer River sanctuaries.

Rinca, Indonesia
The Komodo Dragons are the largest lizard in the world and can grow up to 3 metres in length. They have been known to kill humans (even their saliva is a toxic cocktail of bacteria) but mainly scavenge and prey off deer and buffalo. You can find these fascinating creatures on the islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores and Gili Motang.

Volcano National Park, Rwanda
Volcano National Park is home to the rare and gentle Mountain Gorilla of which, sadly, only 600 remain. Carefully controlled tourism is the best way of ensuring their survival.

Kakadu National Park, Australia
Kakadu National Park, located in the tropical north of Australia, has been continuously inhabited for over 40,000 years by Aborigines. As well as its ancient rock art and carvings it is an area of tidal flats, floodplains, lowlands and plateau providing a habitat for many birds, frogs and reptiles including the giant saltwater crocodile.
